This technique, trusted and perfected by generations of Shetland Island knitters, won’t ruin your knitting. We’ll guide you through each step, ensuring a successful and satisfying result. 

Materials required:  You will neede 50g each of two contrasting colours of DK weight wool yarn (steeking works best with 100% untreated wool, so no cotton, acrylic, silk, or vesy soft animal fibre yarns such as aplaca or cashmere please) and 4mm knitting needles for however you prefer to knit a small circumfrence in the round (so DPNs or circulars), sharp scirros and a 3mm crochet hook. 

Skill level:  Comfortable knitting in the round for a small circufrence and comfortable with stranded colourwork / fair isle knitting.
